Though 1883 and Yellowstone are both works of fiction, the stories do incorporate some real-life personalities from western American history, and the character that Thornton portrays is one of them.

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — The Wheat Ridge Police Department is searching for a driver and passenger involved in a serious hit-and-run crash Tuesday. The crash happened on 38th Avenue between Independence and Johnson. Police say a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries. After the crash, the vehicle sped off, but was located by officers a short time later, according to Wheat Ridge police. However, the driver and passenger were nowhere to be found. The university launched an investigation after prominent sexual assault awareness speaker Brenda Tracy, who spoke with the Spartans football team on multiple occasions, filed a complaint claiming that Tucker harassed her and masturbated without her consent during a phone call.
